BLAEK Friday
We invite you to go against the grain, join us for our annual BLAEK FRIDAY campaign
It’s that time of year again when retailers dramatically reduce their prices for four days, create a frenzy style panic for consumers, convincing people they need more things in their lives. I’m talking about one of the biggest sales of the calendar year, Black Friday / Cyber Monday.
Originally the day after Thanksgiving in the United States, Black Friday has evolved from being declared a day of financial panic back in 1869 to now running for almost two weeks straight with some retailers launching their sales as early as two weeks ago.
As a responsible retailer, we’ve never really liked going on sale. For us, retail is about ensuring products are sold for their true cost, however, as a small business we do have to go on sale from time to time.
So, what’s our approach to the biggest sale of the year? We call it BLAEK Friday, sounds the same but means so much more. During our annual BLAEK Friday campaign $31.90 from each sale will go towards offsetting one tonne of CO2-e. What’s the point in this? Thanks to our partners at Carbon Neutral, BLAEK Friday helps fund the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor which aims to link small patches of remnant vegetation and nature reserves by planting mixed native tree and shrub species on degraded ex-agricultural land. This year, to say thank you we are offering goody bags, jam packed with some of our favourite products for the first 25 sales via our website.
This is our second year partnering with Carbon Neutral for our BLAEK Friday campaign and it allows us (and our community) to offset our Carbon Emissions for the next 12 months. What sort of impact can we have when offsetting our Carbon through this project? Purchasing offsets allows for the continuation of this planting project which is not only sequestering carbon but also restoring the fragile eco-system. The revegetation project encourages the reintroduction of endangered species and combats desertification in this Global Biodiversity Hotspot. In addition to capturing carbon, these plantings provide crucial habitat for thousands of species of unique wildlife. Co-benefits include employment and training opportunities for local people, contribution to local businesses and ongoing consultation and engagement with Indigenous communities1.
We don’t have any fancy discount codes to market to you and everything on our website remains as is. We do however, invite you to go against the grain, IF there happens to be something you need or an item that you love that you know you’ll wear until the end of time, why not make it a meaningful purchase?
By supporting BLAEK Store you’re supporting farmers, manufacturers, local makers and offsetting 1 tonne of carbon.
