BRAND SPOTLIGHT - AMBLE OUTDOORS
As we cross over to the cold vortex that is Winter, we get to welcome back our seasonal favourites including this month’s brand spotlight, Amble Outdoors.
Based out of Melbourne, Amble is founded by avid adventurer Rhianna who was sick of wearing technical apparel that not only lacked in its functionality but also lacked any style. I’m imagining those matching Japara sets you were made to wear on camp that were about three sizes too big, you had to roll up the cuffs on the pants and the sleeves which meant in the end water got in and everything got wet. So, they were pointless, but you were forced to wear them, nonetheless.
Lucky for us Amble has hit the trifecta when it comes to outerwear, offering a product that holds up in bad weather, fits like a glove and is sustainable, three design aspects that were important to Rhianna when she set out on her Amble adventure.
Now, if you’re going to invest in a rain jacket, you better hope it’s protecting you from the rain, otherwise you may as well just save your pennies. Amble has two styles, the Refuge Long Waterproof Jacket and the Elements Waterproof Jacket, which is shorter with a scalloped hem (Tré chic if you ask me). They are completely waterproof and made to keep you dry no matter the weather, if for whatever reason you feel it’s necessary to stand out in the pouring rain all day, you’ll want to be wearing your Amble rain jacket because you’ll not only be dry, you’ll also be warm and toasty, unlike your run-of-the-mill rain jacket, Amble’s are breathable which means you won’t be sweating up a storm on the inside.
Each jacket is made using 100% recycled polyester from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles that are GRS Certified (Global Recycle Standard), this standard ensures the bottles are in fact post-consumer. Each jacket contains over 31 bottles so, you can keep dry knowing you have personally diverted plastic bottles from ending up in landfill. We think it’s great when companies, like Amble, utilise this innovative fabric for outerwear, it’s durable, long lasting and rain jackets don’t need to be washed in a washing machine at all, this means there are no micro-plastics being shed into our waterways. We love this for the planet! We’re currently running a classic black and a cute topography print that the Melbourne girl in me thinks is fun without being too wild, it’s a beautiful print that will stand the test of time and compliment any outfit.
Amble’s transparency doesn’t stop there, these timeless raincoats are ethically made by skilled manufacturers that hold various certifications such as Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) which promotes legal, ethical, and safe manufacturing worldwide and the SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) which assesses standards of labour, health and safety, environment, and business ethics. SMETA is the most widely used social audit in the world and it is a certification we can rely on.
So far, just by walking around in your durable yet seriously chic rain jacket you’ve diverted plastic from landfill, ensured the people that made your rain jacket were paid a living wage and work in a safe environment and if it doesn’t get any better than that your new rain jacket is carbon offset, through third party verified projects, to ensure the impact it has on our world is minimised. The Refuge Jacket’s carbon offset is 13,9kg(s) and the Elements Jacket’s carbon offset is 12,2kg(s) which is done through wind farms, solar power, and forest protection. Since inception Amble has offset a total of 19,053 kg of carbon and counting! That’s an epic achievement for a young brand.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a keen adventurer for a slice of Amble, you can strut around in your carbon offset recycled and stylish rain jacket on your daily coastal walk, coffee run, while running errands, at weekend kids sport or if like me you are trying to cut down on your heater usage you can wear it around the house for extra warmth.
The options are endless, where will you be wearing your Amble this weekend?
