BLAEK Store Impact: Textile Recycling

WHO ARE UPPAREL?
Upparel recycle or repurpose almost any item of clothing, fabric or footwear (let's leave out the undies), saving tens of thousands of kgs of waste going to landfill. They are award-winning sustainability leaders and self-proclaimed wave-makers, and BLAEK Store are proud to partner with them.
On average, Australian's purchase 27kg of new textiles each year and discard 23kg into landfill. This means that as a country, we're throwing away 6,000kg of clothing waste every 10 minutes. Clothing can take up to 40 years to decompose whilst footwear can take almost 1000 years.Upparel are on a mission to educate people about the negatives of donating your items to op-shops or charity bins, and just how much fabric and footwear ends up in landfill in Australia. It's fine if you have something in your wardrobe that you don't like, or is falling to pieces, but instead of ditching it at an op shop why not do something good with it and be rewarded financially? Their sustainable scheme is great for fashion labels too as they can send all of their fabric offcuts to Upparel for recycling!
